PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Hello and welcome back to school.

Firstly, thank you to all those that could make it to our Meet the Teacher BBQ this week. It is always so lovely to see everyone after the long holiday break and reconnect, catch up and meet new people.

This term is going to be busy, the Athletics Carnival, NAPLAN for Grade 3 & 5, Colour Run, School Photos, Motivational Speakers, Learners Lounge, Friday Fun, Reports and the GUP (Growing Up Program) are some of things already locked in for Term 1. Information will be shared with the community closer to the dates that these things happen.

The Department of Education and Young People will be visiting our school in a few weeks to film some of the initiatives we have implemented to improve student wellbeing and in turn increase attendance. This is a huge honour, and I look forward to sharing this with you.

Our school leaders, Addison Glidden and Yui Moriyama hosted their first GOTCHA assembly this week. GOTCHA’s are given out by WPS staff to students who have demonstrated school values of Courage, Connection, Respect, Responsibility and Growth. Four students are randomly chosen at GOTCHA assembly to get a prize to celebrate their success. GOTCHA assemblies are also a chance for staff to share what is happening with students that week. They are weekly on Monday mornings at 9am.

I would like to welcome Jodi Freeman to the Warrane PS team, Jodi will be leading the implantation of our Literacy focuses this year and supporting staff to improve their practice and capacity. Nikki Smith has returned from leave and is working in multiple classrooms across the school to support students with adjustments to their learning. Jazz has joined our team for 2 days a week, supporting students in the early years.

It has been wonderful to welcome new students to the Warrane PS community, this year we have 19 Kinder students and 8 other new students across the primary grades. Our goal was to reach over 150 students attending, we now are sitting at 158!!

I maintain an open-door policy and will always make time to meet with families, please don’t hesitate to check in with me at the gate, before and after school. If you would like a longer meeting, please make an appointment through the office. Communication between families and school is a main factor in student success and the best learning outcomes.
