Hello to our Warrane families and community,
Can you believe we are nearly half-way through Term 4! It has been an exceptionally busy term already, with lots still to come. Next week we have several classes out on excursions. Prep are walking to the Warrane Green Belt Park and 1/2 Clark and 3/4 Spencer are travelling by bus to the Grote Reber Museum and Richmond. We also have a Wellbeing excursion to Bellerive Park and the Aquatic Centre planned.
Yesterday, selected students in Grades 3-6 represented Warrane Primary School at the Interschool Swimming Carnival at the Aquatic Centre. Reports from staff were that all the students demonstrated our school values by supporting and encouraging their peers and even stepping in last minute to fill in races. They had a very successful day in the pool, with all participants placing in every event they entered, and even coming second overall in our division! Thank you Mr K for organising another successful Interschool Carnival!
Warrane Primary is committed to helping students develop the skills they need to build health and respectful relationships from a young age. Starting today, students in Year 5 and 6 are participating in two Health and Wellbeing sessions on a Thursday, run by a qualified School Nurse. The sessions include age-appropriate information on respectful relationships, protective behaviours, health and wellbeing and vaping. Families can support this learning at home by having follow up conversations with their child/ren. To support this you can access a Conversation Guide, at https://www.respect.gov.au/conversation-guide, which has been developed by the Australian Government and is a useful resource for discussing these topics with children and young people.
I wish you a wonderful end to your week.
Eliza Withers

Grade 1-2 Clark had an amazing visit to the Warrane Community Garden on Monday 4th November.
We had a wonderful time looking through the compost for worms, searching for insects, spiders and bugs around the garden and doing treasure hunts to find natural items amongst the bushes, flowers and trees. We looked at the tiniest creatures through the microscope, it was amazing to see how many eyes some have!
The garden is open all the time and it is a great place to visit and have a look around.
5/6G have leaped into Term 4 with excitement and enthusiasm. We are in the throes of investigating significant scientists and scientific inventions. Some research has included Sir Isaac Newton, whom Noah discovered was 84 when he died, he almost gave up on his education, and he never married. Audrey is looking into the life and works of Marie Curie (1867-1934), a woman whose dad was a mathematician and physicist, she went to France when she was 18 and completed 2 degrees. Curie supported herself through university by tutoring, she also worked as a governess to pay for her sister’s university degree. She was the first person to win a Nobel Prize in 2 different categories. Kaedynce’s research on crash test dummies shows that using them is far preferable to using actual humans. Lylah discovered the 2 inventors of Google were both born to Jewish parents.
In our wellbeing space we completed an activity showing all the ways we are connected, and whilst we are individuals and unique, we are social beings who need to have shared values and common understandings to allow us to be caring, empathetic and contributing members of society.
Outside the classroom we watched the Terrapin play ‘Feathers’. Some feedback from our class included “interesting”, “fun/funny”, “unique”, “it was serious and a bit depressing”, “it was like a movie”, “the puppets were amazing and made very well”, “I love Terrapin”.
Last week, Ada attended the National History Competition State Finals where she was presented with an encouragement award and a prize.
The judges were thoroughly impressed by Ada’s well-written and thought-provoking essay concerning Phar Lap’s life and legacy.
Congratulations to Ada on this wonderful achievement and to all the students that entered! We can’t wait to see what our students create for next year’s competition!
Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly.
They were very proud to be acknowledged for upholding our school values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility.
Students enjoyed sharing their learning over a milo and morning tea during Learners Lounge.
Our next school association meeting will be held on Friday 6th December at 9am. Please meet in the school office.
All welcome to join. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Reminder that our breakfast club is open from our school hall Monday to Friday from 8:15am till 8:45am.
All students are welcome.
A reminder that hats are required for Term 4. Please ensure that your child has a sun-safe hat to wear. Hats can be purchased at the office for $6. No caps please.
Please ensure your child's hat is clearly marked. In the event students don’t have a hat they will be asked to sit in the shaded area.
If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
