Hello to the Warrane community
This week Grade 3/4 Spencer went on an excursion to the Material Institute where they got to enjoy science-based activities. Grade 1/2 Willliams walked down to Lillian Martin Home this morning, met some residents and they did some artwork together while they got to know each other.
A DECYP film crew spent half a day yesterday filming all the activities we have implemented across the school to support student wellbeing. Our school data shows that the initiatives put in place are working and student wellbeing is at an all time high.
One of the wellbeing initiatives implemented last year is Friday Choices. There are several new activities this year, students got to list 3 options and are then placed in an activity for Term 1 and 2. The first round of Choices starts tomorrow, look out for some photos on Facebook!
Learners Lounge, another wellbeing initiative started on Monday, two students from each class who have put effort into their learning in the classroom take some work to the Staff Room to share with their peers. Students enjoy hot/cold milo and chocolate biscuits after they share their work.
The Athletics Carnival is on Monday 3rd of March on the top oval. All grades will participate in both running and some field events. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours on the day. Families are welcome to come and watch, the carnival starts at 9.20am, please refer to programs sent out earlier this week. Copies are also available at the office. School hats will need to be worn. Students need to bring their own sunscreen and there will be gazebos for students to sit under.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Sarah

3/4 SPENCER - LEARNING SNAPSHOT
It has been a positive start to the first term of 2025 in 3/4 Spencer. The class is very settled and good friendships are blossoming. In English the students have been reviewing their grammar knowledge and have started exploring different spelling patterns for similar sounds. There is also a keen interest in reading which is pleasing to see. In Maths we are investigating the place value parts of numbers and reviewing our measurement knowledge. Our Science focus for the term is biology, specifically the lifecycle of plants and animals. In HASS we have learned about the Lunar New Year, finding out about what it is, who celebrates it, and what traditions are involved.

SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - MONDAY 3RD MARCH
Our Kinder to Year 6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 3rd of March on the school’s top oval. The carnival will begin at approximately 9:20am and finish at approximately 1.00pm. Kinder to Year 2 races will be first and will conclude before 1st break at 10.40am.
Students will be able to participate, interact with different year groups, celebrate their peers, and show off their house spirit. Some of the races may be timed, with the hope of giving students equal opportunity of representing Warrane at the Southern Primary School Sports Association (SPSSA) Inter-School carnival in late March.
Students are invited to dress in their house colours if the wish to do so. Children must wear their hats on the day and will need to bring a drink bottle with them.
Parents are invited to come watch and support their child/ren. However, only parents who sign in at the office with their WWVP card and have completed the mandatory reporting video training can volunteer on the day.
If you have any questions, please see your child’s classroom teacher, or contact the school office.
It was so lovely to see so many families join us at "Together at the Table" last week. This school program develops and fosters positive partnerships between students, families, and school. The program invites families to share the hot food program lunch at school with their child. Classes from Kinder-Year 6 will have the opportunity to participate in the Together at the Table program once each term.

Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly.
They were very proud to be acknowledged for upholding our school values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility.

STUDENT MEDICAL CONDITIONS - 2025
Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication forms need to be filled out for both prescription and non-prescription medications. You can find blank forms attached below or request them from the school office. Form A is for non-prescription medicine and can be filled in by a parent. Form B is for prescription medicine and needs a GP or pharmacist input. Students needing short-term medication like antibiotics or Panadol must submit these forms before staff can administer them.
All medical forms must be updated yearly and signed by the child’s healthcare provider. If the current forms are less than two years old, a letter from your GP can confirm their validity.
Forms:
- Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication Form
- Epilepsy Medical Action Plan
- Allergy Medical Action Plan
- Diabetes Medical Action Plan
- Asthma Medical Action Plan
- General Medical Management Plan
For more information please contact warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Validation forms and permissions have been sent home with students. Parents/guardians are asked to make any amendments, mark the permissions yes or no, sign and return the forms back to the office or class teacher as soon as possible. It is important we have up to date information for each student, especially in relation to emergency contacts. Parent/guardian information is listed on the forms but other emergency contacts are required to be added each year.
The completion of the Validation form is a mandatory requirement by the Department for Education, Children, and Young People and must be done on an annual basis. If validation forms are not returned, students may miss out on participating in school excursions.
We understand that the forms can be time consuming, and we appreciate your efforts to return them ASAP. The first class to have all forms returned will win an icy pole treat day for their class!

2025 Levies will be posted out soon. The cost of this year's levy is $135. This covers all stationery, excursions and activities for the year and can be paid via BPay or via EFTPOS or cash in the school office.
Payment is not required until the invoice is received.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 6244 1747, via email at warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au or by coming in between 8:30am and 3:15pm.
STUDENT ASSISTANCE SCHEME (STAS) 2025
The Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) provides assistance for eligible families by waiving the cost of school levies. All families holding a current Centrelink Health Care Card, Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card are eligible for STAS.
Further information on STAS can be found on the Department of Education internet at: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/parents-carers/parent-fact-sheets/fees-levies/.
The online form can be found at: https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/ .
Parents who currently receive STAS will not need to provide any additional information and will not need to reapply. You cannot apply online or add additional students in the online application form if you are already receiving STAS. If you wish to add a newly enrolled child to your existing STAS file, please email the details to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au.
Questions about STAS can be forwarded to the Department’s Financial Services Unit at stas@decyp.tas.gov.au or by calling 1800 827 055.
VOLUNTEERING AT WARRANE PRIMARY SCHOOL
We welcome volunteers at Warrane Primary School. As you would know from the past, volunteers require a Working with Vulnerable People check to be able to come onsite to help with events and excursions.
Registration to work with vulnerable people (cbos.tas.gov.au)
There is now an additional requirement that all volunteers have completed the mandatory safeguarding training module. The certificate must be provided to our office staff before you are able to volunteer.
For more information and to complete the safeguarding training visit:
Safeguarding Training - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)

We have students who are allergic to nuts and eggs. As this allergic reaction can be life threatening, the school asks that these products are not brought to school in children’s lunch boxes or for class celebrations.
Items not to be brought to school include but are not limited to - all nut products, peanut butter, Nutella, peanut oil in margarines and all egg products.
It is important that all classes observe this nut and egg aware policy due to the danger of an allergic child coming into contact with residue left by other classes. The parents/carers and staff appreciate your co-operation in this serious matter.
A reminder that hats are required for Term 1. Please ensure that your child has a sun-safe hat to wear. Hats can be purchased at the office for $6. No caps please.
Please ensure your child's hat is clearly marked. In the event students don’t have a hat they will be asked to sit in the shaded area.

Reminder that our breakfast club is open from our school hall Monday to Friday from 8:30am till 8:50am.
All students are welcome.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
