Hello Warrane families and community,
What a busy couple of weeks we have had at school, with much more still to come this term! Last week students celebrated Science Week by participating in Science focused lessons in class and an incursion from the University of Tasmania, Young Tassie Scientists. On Friday students in Years 3-6 travelled by bus to the Festival of Bright Ideas. Students participated in a range of hands-on learning opportunities, such as coding, STEM challenges and mathematical tasks. Staff were extremely proud of the way that all the students interacted with the Science Specialists and the teamwork skills they displayed with their peers.
As a school we are currently celebrating Book Week and the ‘Magic of Reading’ . On Monday students had a mystery teacher reading afternoon, where a different staff member read the class their favourite book or one of the Book Week award books. Students were also invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Tuesday, with one student per class receiving an award for demonstrating a particular interest and love for reading.
Our Book Fair is on in the library before and after school all this week. Any money raised will go towards the purchase of new books for our school library. Thank you to the families who have already supported the Book Fair.
On Friday we have our second last Winter Sports netball and soccer games. Games start at 1pm for those upper primary students participating. The final rostered games will on the Friday 6th September. This will now be held at school, not Risdon Vale Primary, as previously communicated. Next week on Monday we have a whole school assembly at 2pm. 1/2 Williams are hosting and 5/6 Gearman, 3/4 Wood and Kinder are presenting.
We hope to see as many families as possible at our upcoming events.
Eliza Withers

SCIENCE WEEK
To celebrate Science Week our school had a visit on Tuesday afternoon from 3 Scientists from the Young Tassie Scientists program.
The Young Tassie Scientists were an:
Astrophysicist - Neutron star collision
Medical scientist - Heart Health
Entomologist - Insect identification
We thought it was great having the 3 Scientists visit our school for Science week.
We found out how to bend light to make rainbows and how when it is pinched together or spun around light becomes white.
We made a new song version of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes using the body parts of an insect. Students should be able to show you the actions. They were very clever.
It was great fun listening to the scientist that spends her time looking for, and studying insects.
Lastly we found out what to do to keep our heart healthy, and information about our different organs. It was fascinating.
Olympic Mania Hits Grade 3/4W!
Olympic fever swept through grade 3/4W, and the excitement was contagious! Each student picked a country and sport to represent and turned ordinary potatoes into extraordinary athletes! Students researched their chosen countries, learning about sports, flags and cultures before designing and creating their unique uniforms.
Once the athletes were dressed and ready, the games began! From Sprint Racing, to Diving, to Shot Put and more, our potato Olympians gave it their all, and the games were a great day of friendly competition, teamwork, some seriously close calls, and most importantly, fun!
BRAVEHEARTS - DITTO KEEP SAFE ADVENTURE PROGRAM
Students in Prep to Grade 2 participated in Bravehearts Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Program. There were opportunities to learn about essential personal safety skills and knowledge including body ownership, cyber-safety and consent. They really enjoyed joining in the songs and dances and meeting Ditto the Lion!

The cooler months bring colds, flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The best way to look after yourself and your family is to prepare, plan and protect.
- Prepare and get vaccinated. Making sure the whole family are up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect them from getting very sick.
- Flu can be serious for young children. Children are more likely to catch and spread the flu and young children may become very sick.
- Everyone aged over 6 months can receive an annual flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are free* for children under 5 years, pregnant women, people aged over 65 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those with certain medical conditions.
- Adults can receive COVID-19 vaccine every 6 to 12 months, depending on age and individual health. Speak to your GP or pharmacist about what vaccines are recommended for you and your family.
- You can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines on the same day. Book an appointment with your GP or local pharmacist today.

If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
A reminder that parents must not park in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The carpark at the front of the school is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is strictly for staff parking and deliveries.
It is not safe for students to be walking through this carpark due to lack of visibility for delivery drivers and reversing cars.
We appreciate your cooperation.
