Hello Warrane Primary Community,
Welcome to Winter!
The rain and colder weather have certainly arrived, and yet we know that our students need fresh air and outside time to play, regulate and enjoy a full day of learning. Students can bring an extra layer of clothing to wear to and from school and during outside play. School beanies will be available to purchase from the front office for $15. School puffer jackets are $60. Please feel free to pack spare clothes (especially socks) for your child to change into if they are more adventurous at play breaks and are getting dirty.
The front office is completed and looks fantastic. You can now access the office from the front of the school.
Last Friday was choices afternoon. This means students choose from a wide variety of activities to participate in. From cooking to hair and beauty, construction play to ball games and more. The afternoon is a fun way to bring the school together, build strong friendships across the grades and most of all have fun! What did your child choose this term?
Students from Prep went on an excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre in Woodbridge. The Centre houses fully equipped teaching areas, an aquarium room, marine pond and touch tanks, and displays of marine life and human impacts. The Preps students had a wonderful time exploring. We hear that that highlight was getting to pat a shark!
Last week Mr Kamano invited two hockey stars from Argentina to come in and teach the students about hockey. The students learnt basic skills of pushing, receiving, dribbling and stealing the ball and then played a modified hockey game. From the laughter and red faces we saw coming from the hall after PE we think the students had a great time.
Well done to all students who competed at the Interschool Cross Country at Bayview Secondary College today. It is such a long way and you ran so well. We are so proud of you!
A reminder that this Friday, 7th June, is a statewide Student Free Day and Monday, 10th June, is a Public Holiday. Enjoy the Long Weekend!
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.
Get them excited for school
If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that.
The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can:
» spend time with their friends and teachers
» create new and fun experiences
» find their interests
» learn new things
» open up their options – for whatever future they want (whether that’s their dream job or to travel around the world).
Share these positives with your child
Talk to your child about school
Open up a conversation with your child about what’s happening at school. It will help you to better support their interests and confidence in learning. If you show an interest in school, they’ll know that getting an education is important and valued.
Celebrate the milestones
Big and small! Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first day or week of school. And remember: all milestones look different. If it’s a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it.
Set up a time to talk to your child’s teacher or principal
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available.
Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Know when to seek help
There is no weakness in admitting you need help. If your child has completely disengaged with school, and not attending at all, there is support to help you. In the first instance, talk to us at school.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school. The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Earlier this year DECYP introduced a new system EdSmart which automatically generates text messages/emails to the enrolling parent when your child is recorded with an unexplained absence. There have been some intermittent technical problems with the new system, with some parents receiving messages even when they have notified us of absences or have signed into the Kiosk as a late arrival. The Admin team are reporting these instances to DECYP and we thank you for your patience while these issues are investigated and rectified.
Importantly, to assist us, if your child is going to be absent due to illness, appointment, travel, arriving later in the day etc please let us know prior to 9am. You can do this by using the Schoolzine app or by phoning the school office on 6244 1747 (please do not use Seesaw to communicate absences).
Please ensure your child uses the Kiosk located in the Admin office if they have arrived after 8:55am to ensure that they are accounted for in daily attendance.

The colourful autumn leaves have been of interest to our Kinder children over the last few months.
We enjoyed exploring the school grounds in search of interesting leaves to collect.
We sorted, threaded, counted the leaves and made some colourful autumn inspired artwork.
Some of the interesting observations we made:
“The leaves are yellow and brown.” Emmett
“The leaves are on the ground. The wind blew them off.” Oliver
“Some leaves are on the tree, and some are on the ground.” Aleshaday
Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly.
They were very proud to be acknowledged for upholding our school values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility.
It has been wonderful watching the students enjoying their bright and colourful sensory play paths.

The cooler months bring colds, flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The best way to look after yourself and your family is to prepare, plan and protect.
- Prepare and get vaccinated. Making sure the whole family are up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect them from getting very sick.
- Flu can be serious for young children. Children are more likely to catch and spread the flu and young children may become very sick.
- Everyone aged over 6 months can receive an annual flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are free* for children under 5 years, pregnant women, people aged over 65 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those with certain medical conditions.
- Adults can receive COVID-19 vaccine every 6 to 12 months, depending on age and individual health. Speak to your GP or pharmacist about what vaccines are recommended for you and your family.
- You can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines on the same day. Book an appointment with your GP or local pharmacist today.

If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
A reminder that parents must not park in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The carpark at the front of the school is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is strictly for staff parking and deliveries.
It is not safe for students to be walking through this carpark due to lack of visibility for delivery drivers and reversing cars.
We appreciate your cooperation.
Warrane Primary are pleased to advise that we have the opportunity for Anglicare’s Taz Kids program to run a Taz Kids Club in our school in Term 3.
Taz kids is a program that supports children (aged 7-17) and their families. It is designed for students who might sometimes struggle emotionally, feel depressed, anxious or experience any other mental health concerns or those who live with a parent or guardian experiencing similar feelings.
The group aims to help young people learn how to cope with difficulties in life and build stress tolerance. It assists in understanding and managing their feelings, and promotes resilience.
Taz Kids Club is aimed at Grades 1 – 6 and will run for seven weeks during school time for around 50 minutes, with each session filled with games and learning activities. The Program is free and confidential.
For more information or to express your interest for your child please contact the school office.
