Hello to our Warrane community,
This fortnight has been very busy!
Last week the Australian Dental Foundation team saw many students for check ups, right here at school! We also have Oral Health Services Tasmania coming out to us soon for the annual Fissure Sealant and Flouride Varnish program. Notices were sent home for this one last week.
On Tuesday all grades participated in our Athletics Carnival. It was a great day with so many students trying their best and having fun. Thank you to the family members who were able to come and support our students. A big thank you to Mr. Kamano who organised the event and ran things smoothly on the day. Well done to our Sports Leaders – Kelsie and Ruby.
Students in Grades 3 and 5 have started NAPLAN this week. NAPLAN is the only national assessment that all Australian children undertake and provides comparable data about student performance in literacy and numeracy. It ensures there are consistent and well understood measures of student achievement around the country. At a school level, teachers use the information from these tests to inform their planning, teaching and learning.
In the coming weeks Prep students will participate in PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests), an online assessment tool, to provide teachers with information about levels of verbal comprehension and numeracy skills. Teachers use this data to inform their planning, identify learning needs and show progress over time.
On Monday 18th March visitors from the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy will be here to perform a Lion Dance and Eye Dotting Ceremony, which symbolises the wish for peace, harmony, prosperity and good health for all. Families are warmly invited to come along to watch the performance with our students at 2pm in the Hall.
And lastly, don’t forget to buy a ticket in the Easter raffle! There will be a free dress day next Friday with all students asked to bring along an Easter Egg for the hamper.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.
We are holding an Easter Raffle to raise funds to purchase basketball hoops for our playgrounds.
Ticket books were sent home with students yesterday and are $1.00 per ticket / $10 per book. The winner will receive an amazing Easter Hamper! Extra books are available from the office.
If you have any items you are able to donate such as new toys/new books/vouchers/Easter Eggs, please leave them at the office. The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday 27th March so please have all ticket books back to school by then.
To all our volunteers – have you completed your safeguarding training yet?
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete.
To complete your training, simply visit https://decyp-safeguarding.mygo1.com/login or use the QR on the flyer below or in the school office. Make sure you save the certificate to show the office you have completed it.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and keeping young people safe.
On Wednesday March 6th grades 3-6 attended the MONA 24 Carrot Carnival 2024! It was an exciting day with around 1,000 students coming together on the lawns of MONA. There was much celebration in the form of dancing, singing, making craft, and eating wonderfully fresh food. It was a hot day, and we were all grateful for our SunSmart hats and fresh water. We were proud of the way all WPS students interacted and participated. Mrs Gearman
What MONA Was Like. By Ella 5/6G
The day started off with a speech and some information about the background of the 24 Carrot Carnival. For morning tea, we had fruit and cookies. There were a group of people dressed up as nuns and they moved through the crowd singing and playing music. We did one activity where we made necklaces out of fruit, vegetables, dehydrated fruit, and bits of plants. Then someone named Tamas, his son and his son’s friend came out on stilts. There were lots of schools there and it was extremely hot. I felt a little bit over heated, but I got through it. Betty and Dan came out dressed as aliens and danced with lots of the students. Once it was lunch, we had ham rolls with tomato, lettuce, and cheese – they were good! As we were packing up everything got hectic and once on the bus, we were all tired. Overall, it was an ok excursion. I gave it 3 stars.
MONA. By Tshewang 5/6G
It was my first time at MONA, and it was great. We first departed from our school for MONA and we saw bunnies there in the carpark.
We were seated in our area and we saw a man and woman on stage dancing. Then we were given cookies and fruit and some guys played instruments.
Later, we made edible necklaces and ate them, we also saw a compost monster, and for lunch we had rolls.
Last, at the end, the school dance captains danced on stage.
Mona 24 carrot carnival. By Ruby and Charlie-anne 5/6G
On Wednesday the 6th of March we went to the Mona 24 Carrot Carnival for an excursion from grade 3-6.
We started off by watching the performers walk around in funny costumes and talk to us and sing to everyone. Then the crazy aliens jumped on the stage and started singing and dancing to all the schools that were there.
Then we had some food like apples and bananas and cookies and after that we made fruit and veggie necklaces. We had dance captains from our school go up on the stage and choose a song to dance to.
ELECTION DAY BBQ AND CAKE STALL
Our School Association are hoping to hold a BBQ and Cake Stall on Saturday 23rd March. We would love some helpers on the day to cook and serve sausages. We are also asking for donations of cakes/slices/baked treats to sell. These can be left at the office on Friday 22nd March. Donations must have an ingredient list attached.
Please call the office on 6244 1747 or email warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au if you'd like to get involved or have any questions.
5/6 LIFE SKILLS COOKING PROGRAM
A group of students from 5/6 Gearman and 5/6 SB are participating in a Life Skills Cooking program which supports the students in learning how to access delicious recipes, compare prices and stick to a budget, access the community to shop for the required ingredients, and cook delicious foods. This supports in developing their skills around food hygiene, food knowledge, knife skills and cooking techniques.
So far, the students have chosen to cook lemonade scones with jam and cream, sausage rolls and pizza. The LS team enjoy serving their delicious creations to the students of 5/6, as well as to the very grateful staff!

BOAT MAKING
By Ava (Year Five)
Two week ago, we started making recycled boats. They were made out of recycled cardboard, cans, bottles, paper tape, caps and popsicle sticks. We brought recycled stuff from home to make them.
We could be in pairs or solo, lots of people were in pairs. We added sails to some of the boats to make them faster. They were made out of cardboard and popsicle sticks.
Some of us added cans on the side or the bottom and some of us made ours tall, big and hollow.
Next Wednesday we are going to test them in some water.
MONA EXCURSION
By Layla (Year Five)
Last Wednesday we left school at 9:15am and we went on a bus to Mona to go to the 24 Carrot Festival.
When we got there, there was a big chicken that was stealing hats. There were also people in costumes and on stilts blowing bubbles at people as they were coming off the buses. Then we went to the place where we were sitting for it. There were about six other schools there.
Year 5/6 students enjoying our outdoor reading space last week
Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly for upholding our school values of growth, courage, respect and responsibility.
Warrane Primary are pleased to advise that we have the opportunity for Anglicare’s Taz Kids program to run a Taz Kids Club in our school in Term 3.
Taz kids is a program that supports children (aged 7-17) and their families. It is designed for students who might sometimes struggle emotionally, feel depressed, anxious or experience any other mental health concerns or those who live with a parent or guardian experiencing similar feelings.
The group aims to help young people learn how to cope with difficulties in life and build stress tolerance. It assists in understanding and managing their feelings, and promotes resilience.
Taz Kids Club is aimed at Grades 1 – 6 and will run for seven weeks during school time for around 50 minutes, with each session filled with games and learning activities. The Program is free and confidential.
For more information or to express your interest for your child please contact the school office.

Hats are required for Term 1! Please ensure that your child has a sun-safe hat to wear. Hats can be purchased at the office for $6. No caps please.
Please ensure your child's hat is clearly marked. In the event students don’t have a hat they will be asked to sit in the shaded area.
A reminder that parents must not park in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The carpark at the front of the school is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is strictly for staff parking and deliveries.
It is not safe for students to be walking through this carpark due to lack of visibility for delivery drivers and reversing cars.
We appreciate your cooperation.
