Hello to our Warrane families and community,
We have had a busy term already, with lots more happening in the coming weeks. This week classes from LiL to Grade 6 had sessions with Firefighter Drew from the Tasmanian Fire Service. The key messages from the sessions were about fire prevention and action strategies, such as having working smoke alarms in your house and what to do if there is a fire. If you haven’t already, make sure you have a conversation with your child about your evacuation plan, and what you can do to keep your family and home safe.
Next Wednesday our Years 3-6 are going to Mona lawns to participate in the Mona 24 Carrott Garden event alongside other Southern Tasmanian Schools. Photo permission forms went home on Tuesday and need to be returned to your child’s classroom teacher or school office by Friday 1st March. On Tuesday 12th March our whole school athletics carnival will be taking place on the top oval from 9.20am-1.00pm. Parents and families are invited to attend. There will be a notice and flyer going home with your child today.
Teacher professional learning teams have begun. This year our school is continuing the Department wide priority of Lifting Literacy, which a particular focus on reading. In 2024 all classroom teachers will undergo further training on how to teach reading that aligns with latest research and best practice. Students who may need extra help will also be identified and will begin to receive small group or one on one support this term. There will be more information about the reading priority and how you can best support your child at home in further newsletters throughout the year.

Assistant Principal
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.
Validation forms and permissions have been sent home with students. Parents/guardians are asked to make any amendments, mark the permissions yes or no, sign and return the forms back to the office or class teacher as soon as possible. It is important we have up to date information for each student, especially in relation to emergency contacts. Parent/guardian information is listed on the forms but other emergency contacts are required to be added each year.
The completion of the Validation form is a mandatory requirement by the Department for Education, Children, and Young People and must be done on an annual basis. If validation forms are not returned, students may miss out on participating in school excursions.
We understand that the forms can be time consuming, and we appreciate your efforts to return them ASAP. Families that complete and return all forms by Friday 1st March will go into the draw to win a $50.00 uniform voucher. It is not too late to return forms. Winner will be notified next week.
Congratulations to Grade 1/2 Clark who were the first class to have all forms returned and won an icy pole treat day!
2024 Levies will be posted out soon. The cost of this year's levy is $135. This covers all stationery, excursions and activities for the year and can be paid via BPay or via EFTPOS or cash in the school office.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 6244 1747, via email at warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au or by coming in between 8:30am and 3:15pm.
Our School Association has held it's first meeting for the term, and have some great events planned already! Make sure to keep an eye out in the newsletter, on Facebook and around the school for ways you can support or help us in 2024.
We'd love to get a better idea of what times work best for meetings. A survey will be sent out tomorrow to get your feedback about our association.
EASTER RAFFLE
We are holding an Easter Raffle, with tickets coming home on Monday. If you have any items you are able to donate such as new toys/new books/vouchers/Easter Eggs, please leave them at the office. The raffle will be drawn on Monday 25th March at assembly.
ELECTION DAY BBQ AND CAKE STALL
Our School Association will be holding a BBQ and Cake Stall on Saturday 23rd March. We would love some helpers on the day to cook and serve sausages. We are also asking for donations of cakes/slices/baked treats to sell. These can be left at the office on Friday 22nd March. Donations must have an ingredient list attached.
Please call the office or email warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au if you'd like to get involved or have any questions.

This week we were lucky enough to have Firefighter Drew from Tas Fire Service to teach our students from Kinder to Grade 6 about basic home fire safety.
The key home fire safety messages are developed over the primary school years so that they are age-appropriate and engaging for students. Home fire safety resources are given out to children in class, and we encourage them to share the home fire safety messages with their family.
Kinder made this wonderful and creative artwork after their lesson.
If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
To all our volunteers – have you completed your safeguarding training yet?
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete.
To complete your training, simply visit https://decyp-safeguarding.mygo1.com/login or use the QR on the flyer below or in the school office. Make sure you save the certificate to show the office you have completed it.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and keeping young people safe.
Our School will be switching over to a new messaging platform for communicating with you.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
Further information is available on the Department’s website
Our whole school Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 12th of March on the school’s top oval. The carnival will begin at approximately 9:20am and finish at approximately 1.00pm. Kinder to Year 2 races will be first and will conclude before recess.
Students will be able to participate, interact with different year groups, celebrate their peers diverse talents and abilities, and show off their house spirit. Some of the races may be timed with the hope of giving students equal opportunity of representing Warrane at the Southern Primary School Sports Association (SPSSA) Inter-School carnival later in the year.
Students are invited to dress in their house colours if they wish to do so. Children must wear their hats on the day, and they must also have their drink bottles with them.
Parents are invited to come and support our students as they race. However, only parents who sign in at the office with their WWVP card and have completed their mandatory reporting training can volunteer on the day.
Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly.
They were very proud to be acknowledged for upholding our school values of growth, courage, respect and responsibility.

In 3/4 Wood we have been busy creating these amazing symmetrical self-portraits. Using our knowledge of symmetry from maths, we carefully drew our head shape and features to mirror our identical half. The background of our portraits were inspired by the artist Romero Britto, who loves using bright bold colours that pop, with simple patterns that create joy.

As you may be aware, Warrane Primary School is a Nut Aware School. In order to reduce the risk of contact with these foods, eating times are closely supervised and children are required to wash their hands after eating to ensure there is no risk of contamination by touch.
We are seeking your help in keeping our school Nut Aware by asking that you do not send any items with your child/ren that may contain nuts.
Foods of greatest risk would be peanut butter, nutella and sweets containing nuts.
Thank you for your understanding.
A reminder that parents must not park in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The carpark at the front of the school is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is strictly for staff parking and deliveries.
It is not safe for students to be walking through this carpark due to lack of visibility for delivery drivers and reversing cars.
We appreciate your cooperation.
