Term 1 is always busy with lots of things happening. On Wednesday the 14th of February we opened the doors for family members to introduce themselves to their child’s teacher, see classrooms and share a sausage with the school community. Thank you to all those that were able to make it. Please know that you are welcome any time to make an appointment with your child’s teacher either over the phone, email or in person. Classroom teachers email addresses are listed below.
Our specialist classes of Music, PE, Art, Library and Gardening have all started this week and PCYC staff are also working in classes focussing on student engagement and attainment. Fire Education for classes Kinder to Grade 6, Mona 24 Carrot Excursion for Grades 3 to 6, NAPLAN for Grade 3 and 5 and the Athletics Carnival are all coming up later this term. Information about these events will be available closer to the date.
Our school Hot Food Program starts next week, all students will have the choice of a hot meal on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the rest of the term. Each week the menu will be posted on Facebook.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and enjoys some sunshine.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.
Our School will be switching over to a new messaging platform for communicating with you.
The new platform, called EdSmart is an Australian platform which is designed to improve communication in school communities by allowing electronic messaging i.e. SMS and emails. For now, it will be used to manage absences messages i.e. you will receive a SMS or email alert if your child is absent from school requesting a response. It will also allow us to send a communication message to all parent/guardians.
The platform will, over time, be rolled out across all Tasmanian Government Schools and new features will be added.
You will receive a text message and/or an email with further details. Note, the text message sender will be a shortened version of our school’s name - Please keep an eye out for it!
Further information is available on the Department’s website
Welcome back! Let’s make every day count.
Here we go, another exciting school year ahead! We hope you enjoyed your holidays.
By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity at a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick. But creating a solid routine, from the start of Term 1, can set your child up for success for the year ahead.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help.

Validation forms and permissions have been sent home with students. Parents/guardians are asked to make any amendments, mark the permissions yes or no, sign and return the forms back to the office or class teacher as soon as possible. It is important we have up to date information for each student, especially in relation to emergency contacts. Parent/guardian information is listed on the forms but other emergency contacts are required to be added each year.
The completion of the Validation form is a mandatory requirement by the Department for Education, Children, and Young People and must be done on an annual basis. If validation forms are not returned, students may miss out on participating in school excursions.
We understand that the forms can be time consuming, and we appreciate your efforts to return them ASAP. Families that complete and return all forms by Monday 19th February will go in to the draw to win a $50.00 uniform voucher, and the first class to have all forms returned will win an icy pole treat day for their class!
2024 Levies will be posted out soon. The cost of this year's levy is $135. This covers all stationery, excursions and activities for the year and can be paid via BPay or via EFTPOS or cash in the school office.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 6244 1747, via email at warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au or by coming in between 8:30am and 3:15pm.
STAS provides assistance for low-income families towards the cost of levies for students enrolled from Kindergarten through to senior secondary level.
The scheme provides assistance to:
- Full-time students from Kindergarten to senior secondary level in Government and registered non-Government schools whose parents/guardians meet the income test and have care of the student for a minimum of 50% of the time (as assessed by Centrelink).
- Students who are in "Out of Home Care" through the Department of Health and Human Services, Child and Family Services Section.
- Grandparents raising grandchildren.
If you have a current concession card as listed below, you can apply for dependent students for assistance under the STAS:
- Services Australia – Centrelink Health Care Card
- Services Australia – Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card
- Services Australia – Pensioner Concession Card
- Department of Veteran Affairs – Pensioner Concession Card
Note: Parents/guardians must have a concession card. STAS does not apply to a student’s concession card.
If you are unable to apply online, a copy of the form can be obtained from the school office.
If you need assistance or have any questions please call 1800 827 055 or refer to the DECYP website information.
If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
To all our volunteers – have you completed your safeguarding training yet?
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete.
To complete your training, simply visit https://decyp-safeguarding.mygo1.com/login or use the QR on the flyer below or in the school office. Make sure you save the certificate to show the office you have completed it.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and keeping young people safe.
A reminder that hats are required for Term 1. Please ensure that your child has a sun-safe hat to wear. Hats can be purchased at the office for $6. No caps please.
Please ensure your child's hat is clearly marked. In the event students don’t have a hat they will be asked to sit in the shaded area.
As you may be aware, Warrane Primary School is a Nut Aware School. In order to reduce the risk of contact with these foods, eating times are closely supervised and children are required to wash their hands after eating to ensure there is no risk of contamination by touch.
We are seeking your help in keeping our school Nut Aware by asking that you do not send any items with your child/ren that may contain nuts.
Foods of greatest risk would be peanut butter, nutella and sweets containing nuts.
Thank you for your understanding.
A reminder that parents must not park in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The carpark at the front of the school is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is strictly for staff parking and deliveries.
It is not safe for students to be walking through this carpark due to lack of visibility for delivery drivers and reversing cars.
We appreciate your cooperation.
