Hello to our Warrane Primary School community,
Welcome to the last few days of Term 3! What a cold, sunny, windy and wet term. Term 3 always seems to be a long one due the cold and flu season and the weather. Walking around the school and through the classroom it does seem that everyone is looking forward to a well-deserved holiday break.
The Water Safety and Awareness program finishes up tomorrow for the Grade 3-6’s. I have really enjoyed being able to go with each group a few times over the past fortnight and see the students developing their water safety skills. The children have said that they especially enjoyed the boat and life jacket sessions.
Warrane Primary School is a SunSafe school and next term all students will need to wear a sun safe hat at play times. If you don’t have one, they are available at the front office for $6. A sun safe approved hat is a bucket hat or a legionnaires hat.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday. Look forward to seeing you all again when school starts back on the 11th of October.
Sarah
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
We would like to pay respect to the traditional and original owners of this land the Muwinina people – to pay respect to those that have passed before us and to acknowledge today’s Tasmanian Aboriginal community who are the custodians of this land.
2021 TERM DATES
Term 1
3 February to 31 March
Term 2
21 April to 2 July
Term 3
20 July to 24 September
Term 4
11 October to 16 December
The Warrane Primary School Swimming Carnival for Grades 3-6 will be held at the Hobart Aquatic Centre on Monday 18th October.
Students will be able to participate, interact with different year groups, celebrate their peers’ diverse talents and abilities, and show off their house spirits. The swimming carnival will be timed with the hope of giving students equal opportunity of representing Warrane Primary at the upcoming Southern Primary School Sports Association (SPSSA) Inter-School carnival later in the year.
The bus will leave the school at 9:05am and return to school at approximately 2:30pm.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school promptly on the day. Students require appropriate swimwear, including bathers, goggles, and a towel. Swimwear will need to be worn underneath full school uniform to help with change room restrictions. Students are encouraged to bring an additional bag for wet clothes and towels to go in. Please ensure underwear is packed for them to change into after their swim.
Children are required to bring a full lunch and drink a bottle of water. The kiosk will not be available for students to purchase items.
At this stage, due to COVID-19 restrictions in place at the Aquatic Centre, parents will not be able to attend the swimming carnival this year as spectators or volunteers.
If you have any questions regarding the swimming carnival, please feel free to contact the school office.
Reminder that students/families can still vote for the People’s Choice Award until Sunday 17th October 2021 as per info on the website:
Voting closes on Sunday 17 October 2021, and the winner will be announced on Friday 22 October 2021.
Every class has thoroughly enjoyed participating in the kitchen garden program this term.
We would appreciate any help from families who would like to volunteer in our garden who have a current working with vulnerable people check.

Thank you to families that have finalised their levy payments for 2021.
You can still choose to pay your levies by instalment by contacting the school to set up a payment plan of regular instalments. Payment plans can continue through to the end of the school year.
Levies can be paid:
- At the school (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- At Service Tasmania (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- Through BPAY (using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice)
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school, with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department of Education)
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
There are a range of options available to support families with the costs of schooling.
You are eligible for the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) if you hold a Health Care Card, Low Income Health Care Card, or Pensioner Concession Card. Once you have applied for STAS, you will not need to pay any levies. You may apply online, or collect a paper application form from the school office.
Families receiving STAS can access the Spectacles Assistance Scheme to support children who require spectacles.
Please contact Laura Grant, School Business Manager on 6244 1747 if you have any questions or would like to talk about levies at our school. Personal information relating to levies will always be treated with confidentiality.
If you reside in our school intake area and your child will be attending Kindergarten at Warrane Primary School in 2022 (turning 5 years old during 2022), please complete a form at the office.
Below is a map of our new intake area (purple highlighted section).
Last Thursday Mrs Gearman's literacy groups made the most of the Spring sunshine and worked in the outdoor classroom. Lots of vitamin D being soaked in whilst extending their knowledge of homophones.

SpecSavers Eastlands have begun volunteering with us once a month to help out in Breakfast Club. Last week they made yummy pancakes with an abundance of fresh fruit to have with them, along with our usual breakfast menu.
Breakfast Club is open Monday to Friday from 8:15-8:45am and everyone is welcome.
Warrane Pharmacy are helping to raise money for our school Buddy Bench. A Buddy Bench is a seat where students can sit on if they are feeling lonely at school.
During recess or lunch if a student feels lonely, needs someone to talk to, or simply needs a friend to play with, they sit on the Buddy Bench. Peers will then see that there is someone in need of a friend. They may sit next to their new friend on the Buddy Bench or invite them to play.
Thank you to Warrane Pharmacy for thinking of us. Our students will love this.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Warrane Pharmacy or Warrane Primary School Office.
Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Volunteers and visitors are required to have a Working with Vulnerable People card. You are very welcome at our school, and we encourage participation in your child’s learning. Please sign in at the office on arrival and display your Working with Vulnerable People card. Unfortunately, you will not be able to volunteer at the school until you obtain this.
