Good Afternoon Parents and Carers
Staff are ready and looking forward for the return of students on Monday the 25thof May. Classes will return, some things will be slightly different but most things will go back to normal. There will still be a very systematic hygiene routine in place to minimise risks of germs being spread.
Now that restrictions are being eased across the state, staff at Warrane Primary can continue with our whole school priority of improving teaching and learning and supporting students to extend their learning potentials. We have been working very hard to provide online learning to those at home and we intend to maintain some of the online aspects that have been successful in these past months.
Please remember that when school resumes on Monday, we ask and encourage little to no adults onsite unless necessary. If you usually walk your child(ren) to their classroom, it may be helpful to speak with them prior to Monday and devise a plan for dropping them off at the car or car park gates. If you feel that this may cause your child to be anxious, please let the duty teacher at the gates know and we can begin to work on a plan forward so that adults onsite are limited as much as possible. These safety measures have been put in place by the Department of Health and Education so that we can reduce risks and keep our schools open.
Thanks again for all the support and hard work families have been doing through this time.

Principal
Plan to return to learning at school
Up to Friday 22 May 2020:
• Students will continue to learn at home, supported by parents and carers, with teachers leading this learning until their school’s allocated date for all students to return to learning at school.
• School sites are open for those students who cannot be supervised or supported to learn at home.
• Those learning at home continue to be provided with tasks from their teacher, which have been adjusted for the home environment. Tasks align with the Australian Curriculum and are a mixture of online and offline activities.
• Teachers will be in regular contact with students learning at home and will provide students with a learning schedule each week.
• Tasmania is undertaking a staged approach to returning students to school sites that is cautious and sensible.
• The return to learning at school is based on public health advice. It is in line with the Government’s Roadmap to Recovery, which outlines the gradual easing of restrictions on people movement and gatherings.
Staged return to school:
• Our decision to return to learning at school recognises that schools are safe places to be, and that it is in the best interest of our learners to get them back to this model of learning as soon as we can.
• In deciding on our approach to return to learning at school, we looked at what other Australian states and territories are doing, and applied what would work best in Tasmania.
• Our approach to returning to learning at school:o recognises the lower numbers of COVID-19 cases Tasmania is now experiencing
o will get our youngest and senior secondary learners back to face-to-face learning first – where learning can be impacted from an extended period of learning at home.
• The phased approach to the re-opening of our schools will enable us to progressively increase the amount of people movement across the State and monitor the impact this has.
• We need your help as parents and carers to ensure that this phased approach to returning to school sites works, and that students return to school when they are scheduled to.
• Maintaining health and safety for learners and staff on our school sites is a priority, and schools are implementing practices to support social distancing between adults, and maintaining strict hygiene protocols, based on public health advice.

SZapp is a free application that can be downloaded from the App Store to your mobile device. It is a communication tool for receiving notifications and the school newsletter. In the coming months, we will be developing the Warrane SZapp to offer more options for parents/carers to use.
Many parents are already using the SZapp, but for those who are not aware or have not yet downloaded the app, please read the information below. We strongly encourage parents/carers to download and start using the app.
LAUNCH INTO LEARNING
Unfortunately Launching into Learning will not be able to resume this term.
Hopefully we will see our LiL sessions back in Term 3! We will be sure to keep you updated :)
COMBINED PRIMARY SCHOOLS BAND PROGRAM
The following letter has been received from Rod Greenwood, Senior Music Programs Officer:
Dear Parents / Guardians
Combined Primary Schools Band Program
Cancellation of Annual Year 6 Band Tours
I am writing to inform you that sadly, due to the ongoing restrictions around social distancing this year’s planned Year 6 Band Tours will be cancelled.
The Tours were planned for August but, unfortunately, without the possibility of rehearsing each band at the after school rehearsals we just can’t prepare for this online. I certainly would not want to put the conductors, students and teachers involved under any unnecessary pressure by running the Tours and, as always, we’d want the Band Tour performances to be a very positive experience for all. Being underprepared would be a pretty negative experience for everyone.
Following the Guidelines of the Tasmanian State Government’s COVID-19 Roadmap in regard to social distancing restrictions being eased by 13 July to between 50-100 people at indoor and outdoor gatherings as well as day trips and camping allowed for school groups we will also need to cancel all after school rehearsals up to at least this date. I will keep you informed as to when our after school band rehearsals can commence.
Once again I would like to thank you all for your wonderful and continued support of the Combined Primary Schools Band Program especially during the challenging times we are currently facing.
Thank you all so much for your understanding.
Kind regards
Rob Greenwood
Senior Music Programs Officer

Libraries begin their journey to reopen
Libraries Tasmania will begin a staged approach to easing COVID-19 restrictions from Monday, 18 May 2020 by introducing modified physical services while continuing to offer an expanded range of online services.
As a first step, libraries will begin to offer the service their members are most asking for, which is the ability to borrow again.
This will start with the trial of a modified approach to borrowing at the Launceston Library, using a ‘click and collect’ service where members can browse the online catalogue, place holds and collect items from the library during set hours.
Subject to the success of the trial, it will be extended as quickly as possible to other libraries around the state, with additional services being gradually introduced after that.
We acknowledge that COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Tasmanian communities, including library members, visitors, staff and volunteers.
By working together, we can minimise the spread of COVID-19 and this will require the continued cooperation and patience of the community as we explore new ways to safely reintroduce services and programs in the coming months.
