Hello to the Warrane Community,
Swimming and Water Safety
Over the next two weeks, students in Grades 3–6 will be participating in the Swimming and Water Safety Program. This is a vital part of our curriculum, as it helps students develop confidence in the water, learn essential survival skills, and build lifelong habits that keep them safe in and around aquatic environments.
Thank You
A big thank you to all the parents and family members who joined us for our recent Open Afternoon. It was wonderful to see you engaging with your child’s learning and celebrating their achievements. Your involvement makes a real difference to our school community.
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students who participated in our Swimming Carnival. It was fantastic to see such great effort, enthusiasm, and encouragement across the day. A special thank you to staff and volunteers who helped make the event run so smoothly.
Welcome to Spring
Spring has arrived, and with the warmer weather comes the need for sun protection. Please remember that students will soon be required to wear hats when outside. “No hat, no play” helps keep everyone safe under the sun.
Everyday School Matters
Attending school every day is important for students’ learning and wellbeing. Each day builds on the last, and consistent attendance ensures students don’t miss out on valuable learning opportunities and social connections. Thank you for supporting your child to be at school every day.
Footy Colours Day
On Friday, 26th September, we will be celebrating Footy Colours Day. Students are encouraged to wear the colours of their favourite team. This is always a fun day of community spirit, so we look forward to seeing a rainbow of team pride across the school. Kinder will be celebrating Footy Colours Day on Wednesday, 24th September.
Have a lovely weekend
Sarah Hoban
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.

- live in the area and will be attending Kindergarten at Warrane Primary in 2026
Time: 9:00am -10:00am

Lifting Literacy
We are committed to helping every student become a confident, capable reader. That’s why we use a structured and evidence-based approach to teaching literacy, built around what’s known as the Big Six.
What are the Big Six?
- Oral Language – The ability to speak, listen, and understand the sounds we use when we talk.
- Phonological Awareness – Recognising the sounds in our speech.
- Phonics – Understanding how letters and sounds work together.
- Vocabulary – Knowing and using a wide range of words.
- Fluency – understanding the meaning of words and sentences as they are being read.
- Comprehension – using the other five skills to understand what is being read.
The Big Six are not just skills for early readers or young students. You play an important role in your child’s literacy development. Talking with your child, reading together, playing word games, and asking questions about stories are all powerful ways to support what your child is learning at school.

Students in Years 3-6 will be participating in the SWSP at Oceana Pool for 10 days from Monday 15th September-Friday 26th September.
Your child must have the following items every day of their program, please send them to school with their bathers on underneath their school uniform:
- Swimming gear – including bathers and a swimming cap (WPS can provide caps if needed)
- Underwear to change into
- A towel and plastic bag to put wet clothes in
- Slides or thongs
Please note:
Goggles: Student may use goggles in the pool, however, they are not necessary. An aim of the program is that students become competent in their skills without the use of goggles.
Jewellery: For safety reasons, dangly earrings are not to be worn in the pool. Sleepers are allowed.
Parents/carers are welcome to attend the program, however they are not permitted in the student change rooms. Families are also asked to only take photos/videos of their own children.
In 1/2 Williams we have been learning about pushes and pulls in science. At the end of the unit, we designed mini golf courses using lose materials in the classroom. The students worked with a partner to design a course that would demonstrate push and pull forces. When their plan was complete, they wrote a list of materials they needed to make their course. It was fantastic to see all the creativity and resilience in the trial stage. Each group finished their course and were able to demonstrate how a ping pong ball could be pushed or pulled through the course. They were all very proud of the end results and we had a lot of fun.

This term has been full of fun and learning adventures! We enjoyed celebrating Book Week with a special visit to the library, got our hands dirty gardening with Ollie, and had a swashbuckling good time with Pirate Week.
Keep an eye out for the Term 4 calendar – lots more exciting activities are on the way!

Primary Art Update – Celebrating Creativity and Inspiration
Students in Primary Art have been exploring the works of famous artists, including Paul Klee, a renowned German artist (1897–1940), known for his imaginative use of color and abstract forms. Inspired by these studies, students also participated in the 2025 Young Archies Awards, showcasing their creativity and portrait skills.
The sessions have been thoroughly enjoyed by all, and the quality of the artwork produced has been exceptional. It’s been a joy to see students engage so enthusiastically with both historical and contemporary art practices.

Term 3 Classroom Open Afternoon
On Monday afternoon, families from Kindergarten to Year 6 joined us for our Term 3 Classroom Open Afternoon. It was a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to connect with their child’s learning journey—chatting with classroom teachers and exploring the fantastic work students have produced throughout the term.
Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the afternoon so special!

On Monday, our Prep to Grade 6 students had a blast sharing their proudest work in the Learners Lounge. From persuasive texts to creative puppets, innovative maths ideas, and intriguing facts about Australia’s geography, the students' creativity and hard work were on full display.
The warm milo, tasty biscuit, and quality time with Mrs Freeman and Mrs Gearman added a touch of warmth to the celebration. It was a fun and inspiring way to showcase the vibrant learning environment our school fosters!

Father’s & Special Person’s Day Stall – Thank You!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Father’s and Special Person’s Day Stall!
It was wonderful to see the excitement as students carefully chose gifts for the special people in their lives. The smiles said it all!
A special shout-out to our amazing volunteers who helped make the stall run smoothly — we couldn’t have done it without you!

Congratulations to our Year 1/2 Aussie of the Term Award recipients, Freyja Watts (1/2W) and Bailey Smith (1/2C). Both students received their Aussie Awards for their positive attitudes, kind and caring natures and the respect they demonstrate towards all WPS students and staff. Well done girls, you should be extremely proud of being recognised as the Year 1/2 Aussie Award winners for 2025.
Teacher Assistant Appreciation Week
Last week, we proudly celebrate our incredible Teacher Assistants who play a vital role in supporting our students and classrooms every day. Their dedication, patience, and care make a lasting difference in the lives of our learners and the heart of our school.
We thank them for their tireless efforts, warm smiles, and the many ways they help our school shine.
Let’s take a moment to show our appreciation and let them know how valued they truly are!

We have students who are allergic to nuts and eggs. As this allergic reaction can be life threatening, the school asks that these products are not brought to school in children’s lunch boxes or for class celebrations.
Items not to be brought to school include but are not limited to - all nut products, peanut butter, Nutella, peanut oil in margarines and all egg products.
It is important that all classes observe this nut and egg aware policy due to the danger of an allergic child coming into contact with residue left by other classes. The parents/carers and staff appreciate your co-operation in this serious matter.

All students are welcome.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
